Vaughn R. Watson, age 79, of Smyrna, formerly of Delaware City, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday June 22, 2022, at his home after a long illness.
Vaughn worked for Occidental Chemical for 38 years before he retired in 2006. He was a United States Army veteran and a former member of Townsend Free Will Baptist Church. Vaughn attended Delaware City schools.
He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, traveling, and family.
Vaughn was preceded in death by his sons, Vaughn Jr. and Daniel P. “Chappy” Chapman; brothers and sisters, Edwin, Joseph, Jimmy, Annie, Roberta, Pearl, Myrtle and Adeline.
Vaughn is survived by his wife of 32 years, Janice; daughters, Laura Geedy (Steve) and Tammy Mackie (James Jr.); son, Warren Howard Chapman; sisters, Evelyn Beverage and Shirley Watson; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Services for Vaughn will be at 5 pm on Thursday June 30, 2022 at Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 East Justis Street Newport, DE 19804. A visitation will follow the service from 6 – 8 pm. Burial will take place on Friday July 1, 2022 at 11am at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road Bear, DE 19701.
