Wayne Shimp

Of Wilmington, DE, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2009, at his home. He was born in Camden, SC, March 24, 1965.

Wayne graduated from A.I.Dupont High School in 1983. While in high school he was active in the marching, concert and jazz band playing the trombone. His love of music carried on being a part of the NCC Community Band for many years. He also graduated from Del Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked for EMC Process Company for 21 years.

Wayne had a great love and passion for life. He lost his leg in a hunting accident but that didn't slow him down. He continued to fish, camp, restore old Corvairs, as a member of First State Corvair Club, cooking (always trying & sharing new recipes, riding his motorcycle and continuing with his church band. He was a very active, loving guy, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Dick Shimp. He is survived by his loving wife, of 22 years, JoEllen; daughters, Jessica (Matt Crawford) and Emily; mother, Mary Lou Shimp of Lake Wales, FL; brothers, Paul(Kim)of Warrenton, VA; Carl(Rosalyn)of Roanoke, VA: Alan (Marty) of Colonial Beach, VA; and his sister, Jane(Steve) Straw of Perkasie, PA. He is also survived by his grandson, Jason, who was his pride and joy. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A memorial will be 1:00pm, Wednesday, February 11th at Peniel United Methodist Church in Newport. Interment will be private.
