William Truman Clough, age 88, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on February 9, 2007 at Tilton Terrace in Wilmington, DE.
He was born on October 17, 1918 at home at 114 Middleboro Road, into the Lewis family. His parents, Sarah Jane and Robert Clough built the house in 1903 and raised their 5 children there. William was a member of the first graduating class of Henry C. Conrad HS, Woodcrest in 1937. After graduating he worked as a photographer for Willard Stewart and then the DuPont Co. In 1942 he entered the U.S. Army. Because of racing pigeons as a youth, his service in the South Pacific began with sending messages by carrier pigeons to U.S. troops. He also later served as an Official Squadron Photographer and received the following 10 bronze stars; for New Guina, Bismarck Archipelago, Philippine Liberation, Japan Air Offensive, and the South Philippenes, Western Pacific, Lazar, China, Ryukyis and Borneo Campaigns. After the war he returned to DuPont Co. He then worked as the Head Photographer at Brainbridge Training Center, MD, followed by the Cecil Whig, Elkton, MD and the University of Pennsylvania, where he was Director of Photography of the University Museum. He retired in 1984. He married Helen A. Healy in 1977. She passed away in June of 1989.
He is predeceased by 4 brothers and sisters, Margaret Clough Chalfant, (DE), Roberta Clough Truitt, (DE), Robert S. Clough, (DE) and Everett L. Clough, (CA). He is survived by 2 nieces, Shirley Truitt Godfrey, (DE) and Elaine Clough (CA); 4 nephews, Richard D. Chalfant, (DE), John W. Chalfant, (FL), Robert S. Truitt, (DE) and Eugene Clough (ME); 2 step-sons, Robert Healy of Honeybrook, PA and James Healy of CO, as well as several great nieces and great nephews.
Loving care was provided for the last 4 years by Virginia Feliciano of Lyndalia. h
Her sister Darlene Honeybone of Wilmington, lived with him for the past year in his apartment in Lyndalia, and cared for him daily. Special help was provided by Francena D. Chalfant and her husband Rance O'Brien, of Chadds Ford, PA.
Funeral services will be held at NICHOLS-GILMORE Funeral Home, 212 E. Justis St., Newport, DE at 11am on Friday February 16 where visitation will begin at 10:30am. Burial will be at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA
