William “Bill” Vaughn, 87 passed away July 9, 2022, peacefully surrounded by his family. He always talked about the “big surprise” waiting for us in heaven and we suspect he is joining his parents and siblings at the celebration. Born in Lewes, DE to Molloy C. Vaughn and Sarah Estelle Vaughn. A true Delaware native, Bill aka, “Turk”, was raised on a turkey farm, graduated from Admiral Farragut Academy and the University of Delaware.
It was at U of DE where Bill met and married the love of his life for 63 years, Judith Randall Vaughn of Westbrook, Maine. Together they raised three daughters in Newark. Bill always said his greatest achievement was raising his daughters, Deborah Simpson (Mike) of Seattle, WA; Deidre Oliver of Yarmouth, ME; and Christa Myers (Eric) of North Hampton, NH.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to anyone who would laugh at his jokes and sit long enough to hear one of his famous stories. He was an avid U of DE football and basketball fan, and a past president of the Newark Touchdown Club.
As an Independent Insurance Salesman for over 60 years he helped and developed many life-long friends. He will be remembered as the best carpool driver, avid tennis player, and life of the party. We should all strive to emulate his zest for life.
He is preceded in death by his siblings, Molloy C. Vaughn, Jr, Louise V. Hanby and Stephen C. Vaughn and survived by his wife Judith, daughters, five grandchildren (Eliza, Maxfield, William, Guss and Samantha), as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held 1:00 pm, July 30, 2022 at Newark Country Club. Donations may be made to the University of Delaware Athletics Blue and Gold Fund in memory of William B.
